Nakaseke is a rural district 80 miles to the north. In partnership with the Makerere Lung Institute and the Makerere University–Johns Hopkins University Collaboration (MU-JHU), we have conducted population-based studies examining the prevalence, risk factors and burden of chronic disease in the region. We have also established relationships with Ministry of Health officials to examine implementation strategies concerning NCD prevention and control. We host students from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Fogarty Global Health Fellows. In 2017, the site was selected as a Premier Global Established Multidisciplinary site by the Center for Global Health at Johns Hopkins, an honor which was renewed in 2018. Our research is supported by funding from the Fogarty International Center/NIH, Medical Research Council, and the Else Kröner Fresenius Stiftung Foundation.
