Eric McCollum, MD

Eric McCollum, MD is the director of the Global Program in Pediatric Respiratory Sciences and an Assistant Professor of Pediatric Pulmonology in the Eudowood Division of Pediatric Respiratory Sciences at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.  He has more than a decade of clinical and research experience in child respiratory diseases specific to low- and middle-income countries in southern Africa and South Asia and advises the World Health Organization in multiple capacities in the area of pediatric respiratory diseases.  Dr. McCollum is a co-investigator on the HAPIN trial and is coordinator of work related to the child pneumonia endpoint.  In addition to his HAPIN work, as of 2019, he is also the PI of a NIH K01 International Research Scientist Development Award in Sylhet, Bangladesh examining the role of pulse oximetry in Bangladeshi children with clinical pneumonia. He is also the PI of a clinical trial investigating bubble CPAP as an intervention to reduce pneumonia mortality in Malawian children with severe clinical pneumonia.
